MADDEN, FIFA AND Football Manager are all names we associate we days spent slumped on the sofa, surrounded by pizza boxes and energy drinks.
In other words, the best days of our lives.
However, not every sports related video game can hold our attention so well and, here at TheScore.ie, we’ve put together a list of the very worst.
5. Michael Phelps: Push the Limit – XBox 360

Michael Phelps is a tremendous athlete but is anyone going to spend 30 minutes making swimming motions as their friends look on wondering if they should call an ambulance or not? The game itself suffers from some lag issues and, once you’ve mastered the key to it (pacing yourself), becomes incredibly easy. More a case of sink than swim.

4. Kurt Warner’s Arena Football Unleashed – Playstation

Much like arena football can’t hold a torch to its real-life outdoor counterpart, this game pales into insignificance compared to the Madden franchise. Why the producers thought adding the name of dull-as-dishwater quarterback Kurt Warner to the title would increase sales remains a mystery.
Let’s face it, sticking Michael Jordan’s name on just about anything was sure to make it a success. However, why you would cast him as the central character in a game where he goes around fighting crime with the help of basketballs with special powers is anyone’s guess.
2. Gaelic Games Football – PS2

Where to start with this one? With the exception of Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh’s commentary, this game lacked everything from the players’ real names to clunky controls and terrible graphics. A half-hearted effort at cashing in on the popularity of the GAA here but one they shouldn’t have bothered with.
This is how the game sells itself: “Shaquille O’Neal wanders into a kung fu dojo while heading to a charity basketball game in Tokyo, Japan. There, he stumbles into another dimension, where he is forced to rescue a young boy named Nezu from the evil mummy Sett-Ra.” It only gets worse from there.
